Robert Kraft Bio
Kraft’s father worked in the garment industry as a small company owner. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, the younger Kraft went to work for Rand-Whitney, a paper packaging company run by his father-in-law, Jacob Hiatt. In 1998, he founded the Kraft Group as a holding company for Rand-Whitney, International Forest Products, and his family’s other businesses, including sports. The New England Revolution, a Major League Soccer team, was created by Kraft and his family in 1996. In 1968, Kraft purchased half of Hiatt’s stock, and in 1972, he acquired total ownership.
International Forest Goods was formed in 1972 to deal in wood, pulp, and paper products. In 1975, he and other partners purchased the Lobsters, but the tennis team dissolved in 1978 when the original WTT disbanded. He bought the stadium in 1988 with a partner whose interest he eventually bought out. Kraft was urged to replace Foxboro Stadium with Gillette Stadium, which he built on an adjacent site in 2002, as club earnings increased. Patriot Place, a hotel, retail, eating, and entertainment complex adjacent to the new stadium, was later constructed by him.
