Jim Fassel was born in Anaheim, California, on August 31, 1949, as James Edward Fassel. He played football in high school and was taken in the seventh round of the 1972 NFL Draft. His father died over seven years ago in a vehicle accident, and his mother died after a long illness. Fassel began playing football as a student at Anaheim High School. He began studying and playing quarterback at Fullerton College, University of Southern California, after graduating from high school. Jim Fassel also played for Long Beach State, according to reports. He graduated from college somewhere about 1972.
Career
In 1974, Fassel had his first professional coaching position with the World Soccer League’s Hawaiians, where he played quarterback before becoming an offensive assistant coach. On November 30, 1984, he was named Utah’s head coach after five months as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for the USFL’s New Orleans Breakers.
